keep the boxes out of the landfill
Every rescued box costs something — sleeves, scanning gear, a little time. Nothing here is for sale, and it never will be. If the work means something to you, a tip helps keep the next box from being thrown away.
The negatives are going well, and the slides are next. I’ve already ordered a slide holder for the scanning rig, and it should arrive within the week. It cost $35. Anything toward this goal helps cover it, so the slides can come out of their carousels and into the archive.
Found film is cheap to buy and expensive to keep. A dollar box of negatives still needs archival sleeves, a rig to scan it, cool dry storage, and the hours to invert, dust-spot and catalogue every frame. Slides arrive by the carousel — hundreds at a time.
A tip does not buy anything on this site. It buys the next rescue: the box at the next estate sale that would otherwise be thrown out, and the sleeves and storage to keep it safe for whoever comes looking in a hundred years.
