About the archive

what this is

Nobody’s Album is a home for found film — boxes of negatives that turn up at estate sales for a dollar, long after the people who made them are gone and the families who should have kept them did not.

These frames are from the spring of 1971: a young man named John, his partner Carolyn, and their circle of friends — afternoons by the river, a picnic and a fire, a bonsai repotted on newspaper, a kitten in a square of sunlight. Each one is scanned as found, named from the writing on its envelope, and preserved so that a stranger — or, one day, a descendant — can see them again.

Nothing here is for sale. If you recognise your family, any image can be removed, no questions asked.
